📰 News-To-Know

1

Protecting artistic styles

The Glaze Project has announced the release of "Glaze 2.0," a free software update designed to protect artists' unique styles against imitation by AI. This tool uses a "style cloaking" technique that adds subtle changes to images, making it harder for AI to learn and copy the styles. The update promises enhanced performance on newer Apple Silicon Macs, increased resistance against popular AI models, and minimal visual impact on the original art. It is available for both Windows and macOS.

"Glaze" is a system designed by the University of Chicago to prevent the unauthorized mimicry of artists' styles by AI models. It modifies artworks in ways that are imperceptible to humans but disrupt AI recognition of the original style.

The Details:
  • Purpose: Protects artists from AI systems that replicate their unique styles without consent.

  • Functionality: Alters art subtly so that it's misinterpreted by AI as a different style, effectively shielding the original art from mimicry.

  • Accessibility: Available through WebGlaze, a service for artists using devices like phones or tablets without the need for powerful hardware.

  • Protection Mechanism: Resistant to simple countermeasures like cropping or filtering, making it a robust defense against AI mimicry.

A camera that creates poetry!

The Poetry Camera is a novel device that merges art and technology by converting visual inputs into poetic outputs. Developed by Kelin Carolyn Zhang and Ryan Mather, this open source gadget uses a Raspberry Pi and AI algorithms to analyze images and generate poetry. It aims to provide a unique, tactile art experience by printing poems, offering an alternative to traditional digital interactions. The creators are exploring the potential for broader distribution while prioritizing sustainability and artistic integrity.

🧰 Tools-To-Know

I haven’t added this new tool to the Ai Art and Animation Tools list just yet, but thought it was interesting. Hopefully it will get better.

A dream animation creator

Hypnovels, created by Silverside AI, is an innovative generative AI tool designed to help authors market their books. By transforming novel excerpts into audiovisual "hypnotic dreams," this tool aims to capture potential readers' attention on platforms like TikTok. Founded by PJ Pereira and Rob Wrubel, Hypnovels allows authors to upload text and select from various visual and auditory themes to produce engaging videos.

Here’s a sample of the dream-like output…

Nostalgic Photography

Nostalgia is an intricate emotional state marked by a sentimental or wistful longing for the past, often connected to places or times with personal meaning. This emotion is inherently bittersweet—it melds happiness drawn from fond past memories with the sadness of knowing these moments are past retrieval.

Initially, in the 17th century, nostalgia was viewed as a medical issue, a type of melancholy diagnosed in soldiers suffering from extreme homesickness. However, perceptions of nostalgia have evolved significantly since then; it is now seen as a generally benign and sometimes beneficial emotional response.

Psychologically, nostalgia can act as a refuge in times of loneliness, anxiety, or upheaval, offering solace and a sense of stability by recalling happier times. It also helps individuals maintain a sense of self and continuity by connecting past experiences to their current life.

In cultural terms, nostalgia pervades areas such as entertainment and marketing, where it is used to forge an emotional bond with people, appealing to their memories of bygone times, familiar products, or experiences.

Despite its often positive aspects, excessive nostalgia can sometimes hinder personal development if it leads to an avoidance of the present or anxiety about the future. Overall, nostalgia is a deeply human response to reflection and memory, highlighting the enduring connection people have to their personal and collective pasts.
