Ai Pounding on Hollywood’s Door
Listen carefully. You hear that? It started as a gentle tap, tap, tap, but now it’s become a pounding, like the cops hammering on a suspects door.
Bloomberg is reporting that Alphabet and Meta are following OpenAI’s lead, engaging in talks with Hollywood studios to license content for AI training. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, is at the forefront, promoting their innovative video generator, Sora, to industry leaders.
However, these discussions are not without controversy. There are concerns about potential unauthorized use of YouTube videos by OpenAI, which has sparked a broader debate on intellectual property rights. This issue echoes last year’s WGA and SAG strikes, where actors and writers voiced their worries about AI’s impact on their work.
Despite these challenges, the allure of AI-driven content creation is undeniable. OpenAI’s $250 million deal with News Corp is a testament to the high stakes and potential rewards of these collaborations. Now, it looks like Alphabet and Meta are eager to secure their own agreements, positioning themselves as pivotal players in the AI video landscape.
Methinks that it’s only a matter of time before Arnie’s Terminator arrives to kick the door in. […like that’s ever going to happen!]
📰 News-To-Know
1
Who’s Voice Is It Anyway?
In the age of AI, the ownership of your own voice has become a contentious issue, as highlighted by this CNET article. For example, a voice actor discovered their voice had been cloned and used in an AI-generated commercial without their consent. Another troubling case involved a journalist whose voice was replicated for a deepfake audio clip used in a disinformation campaign.
It’s already possible to create unique voices or clone your own voice, quickly and easily, using apps such as ElevenLabs. There are, and always have been, unscrupulous people. No amount of legislative protection will stop this happening!

Google’s Advantage Over OpenAi
Midia Research believes that Google’s YouTube's expertise with video creators gives it an edge over OpenAI’s Sora in the AI text-to-video space. Google’s new tool, Veo, was introduced to compete with Sora by lowering the barrier to video content creation and leveraging YouTube’s extensive knowledge of creators' needs. Unlike OpenAI, which relies on third-party data, YouTube can use its own data to improve Veo's functionality and provide seamless content distribution. This advantage positions YouTube to potentially dominate the AI video creation market.

Has Gen-AI Moved Beyond Fair Use?
The New York State Bar Association article discusses the challenges that image-generative AI poses to modern copyright law, particularly around the concept of fair use. It examines how AI technology uses copyrighted works as inputs for training and the legal implications of the outputs it generates. The article highlights the potential for courts to favor technological advancements in fair use cases, which could disadvantage traditional artists.
It calls for a nuanced analysis of AI inputs and outputs under the fair use doctrine.

Blackwork Tattoo Designs
Blackwork tattoo artwork is a style that emphasizes the use of solid black ink to create intricate designs and patterns. This form of tattooing traces its roots back to ancient tribal traditions where tattoos were often used for cultural and ritualistic purposes. Over time, blackwork has evolved to include a wide range of artistic expressions, from minimalist geometric shapes to complex, highly detailed imagery.
The primary characteristic of blackwork is its use of thick, bold lines and solid black fills. Artists employ techniques such as dotwork, where designs are formed by a series of tiny dots, and linework, which focuses on creating images with precise, clean lines. This style can also incorporate negative space effectively, using the skin itself as part of the design to create contrast and depth.
Blackwork tattoos often draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including tribal art, sacred geometry, and even contemporary graphic design. The versatility of black ink allows artists to experiment with different textures and shading, resulting in tattoos that can range from simple and striking to highly intricate and detailed.
The appeal of blackwork lies in its timeless and bold aesthetic. The high contrast between the black ink and the skin creates a visually impactful result that tends to age well over time. This style is particularly popular among those who appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of tattooing, as it requires a high level of skill to execute clean lines and solid fills without the use of color.
In recent years, blackwork has gained popularity not only for its visual appeal but also for its cultural significance and the way it allows for personal expression through body art.
