Subscribers to Prompt Hackers may well recall that a couple of weeks ago I talked about how I created a pretty basic but functional prompt library Chrome extension using ChatGPT. If you missed it, you can read it here: How I Made a Chrome Extension Using ChatGPT in Under Two Hours - and I Can’t Code!
Over the last couple of weeks I have built upon what I learned during the exercise to create a newer, and I think, better version. My new creation, A.I. Prompt Log is now freely available on the Chrome extension store.
Here’s what it can do:
★ Works for Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers.
★ Scrollable, Filterable, and Searchable list of your prompts.
★ Add, Edit, or delete your own prompts.
★ Add, Edit, or delete your own categories.
★ Copy to clipboard for quick paste into Bard, Bing, ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc.
★ Export entire library to csv file.
★ Bulk Import from csv file.
The extension is built around my own workflow, to help me quickly save and retrieve my ever-growing collection of text-to-image and text-to-text prompts for Midjourney, ChatGPT, Bard, Bing, and CopyAI.
Getting Started with Prompt Log
You can use the extension any way you wish but here’s how I approach it.
When you open the extension, go straight to the ADMIN popup, and Add some categories. You can create a maximum of 16 categories. Category titles are limited to a max of 12 characters including spaces. There is also a Favorites category which you cannot change or delete.
Then close the ADMIN and start adding prompts (Add). You don’t have to assign a category to a prompt if you don’t want to - you can always go back and do it later. I do it as I create them!
In the ADMIN popup there’s an option to Export your prompts. My advice is to do this regularly! There’s also an option to Import prompts. I’ll come back to this!
From the Library (the main popup) you can scroll through all your prompts or filter by category. You can also search for a specific prompt if you know the title. There’s also an option to Copy the prompt text to the clipboard or get more Details.
The prompt Details popup give you the details of the prompt. To make changes to the prompt, just go ahead and type them in, and assign or change categories. When you are done, click Edit and your changes are saved.
That’s really all there is to it. I hope it fits well for your own workflow!
Importing Prompts
To bulk import prompts the file needs to be in a particular format. I create mine in a spreadsheet, but you can use anything you wish, but here’s how it must be structured:
The file must have three column headers Title, Prompt, Categories - use these exact titles, including capitalisation.
Title: Tis is the name/title of your prompt
Prompt: The main text of the prompt. It may include multiple commas and other punctuation.
Categories: One or more categories, separated by commas. For example, Category 1, Category 2, Category 3 etc.
Important!! Any categories you put here in your spreadsheet must already exist in your library. If they do not, the prompt will be imported, but categories will be blank. So before you import, go to the Admin popup and create the categories you need.
Import Template
I have created a Google sheets template for importing. Get it HERE.
Open it, drop in your prompts, and then download as csv. Then go to ADMIN>IMPORT, select your downloaded file, and hey presto!
Download Some Prompts
To make things easy, I have started adding links to downloadable csv files to enable users to import prompt packs directly into Prompt Log.
Check out the ‘Packs’ category.
*** When you have downloaded a pack, open it in a spreadsheet, add or change categories to suit your need, and then re-save as a csv ready to import. Remember to create any new categories you need inside the Prompt Log Admin before importing.
Over the coming weeks I will grow the number of packs available.
Support
My Prompt Log still needs work, and I am always happy to take suggestions or help if I can. You can reach out to me, but please know that:
I am not a coder
I don’t support the platforms
I’m on London UK time, and I do have other stuff to do so please be patient.
I’m on my own here so don’t expect too much.
